Larch MillerWhenever you see Larch, she is knitting. Whether at the desk in The Haven’s lobby, welcoming food shelf visitors, answering phones or participating in Women’s Group, Larch’s hands are always knitting or stitching something.
“I have seen women come out of their shell here.”
Larch began volunteering at The Haven in 2002, after recently moving to the Upper Valley from New York City, where she spent 20 years crafting costumes for Broadway shows and working as the Wardrobe Supervisor for the New York City Ballet. Her mending skills have come in handy at The Haven; she and other volunteers sort through clothes donated to The Haven and pick out any that need restoration. Every Friday at Women’s Group, Larch’s grandmotherly demeanor helps warm the heart of any newcomers to the group. “I have seen women come out of their shell here,” says Larch, recalling a time when one mother ran out to her car after crafting a tote bag in Women’s Group, yelling “I made it myself! I made it myself!”
