New Adult Haven Shelter: Keeping our Veterans Off the Street

Currently, when a homeless veteran comes to the VA Medical Center in White River Junction for counseling or medical care, they are sent to Rutland, Burlington, or Brattleboro for shelter. This distance prevents veterans from accessing the care they need.

“Clinicians from the VA desperately need a local shelter to refer veterans to that would allow easy access to care while they sort out their next step. We cannot allow a veteran to be on the streets.”

—Daniel Guertin, Social Worker,
VA Medical Center, White River Junction

The Haven's new Adult Shelter would provide veterans with a safe, healing environment just two miles from an award-winning team of health professionals specializing in Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and Depression. An average of 2–4 veterans are referred every week to homeless shelters in Vermont by the VA Medical Center in White River Junction.
